Lectures on the Lawn with Karan Vance
August 15, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pmfree / pay-what-you-can love offering
Each week at our Lectures on the Lawn discussion, we welcome someone from the community that is inspiring others around them, and this week we are excited to welcome Karan Vance!
Karan Vance is known in the community as an activist with Alabama Rally Against Injustice. She became deeply involved in the social justice movement in 2018, and since then she has worked to share her stories and inform others on the prevalence of racial injustices in our community. Karan is a Birmingham native, an educator, and the mom of two beautiful children with her high school sweetheart. She is working towards her dream of founding nonprofit organizations that provide education and counseling services to low income areas and black communities. Join us this Saturday for Karan’s talk, titled Protesting 101, to learn about why and how she is putting her heart and soul into this movement.
Our lecture series is free to attend. If you are able, we encourage you to contribute any amount to our speakers with a love offering. We will provide water, light snacks, chairs, and a few blankets. Please feel free to bring your own food and drink. Face coverings and 6+ foot distancing between households are required. We invite you to come a little early to shop Unity Market‘s amazing selection of food and farm vendors, here at Unity of Birmingham every Saturday from 4-7pm!
