January 26, 2018 @ 8:30 pm - January 27, 2018 @ 1:00 am
LOBOTOMIX’s first showcase of 2018 is FRI Jan 26th featuring our longtime collaborators Nerves Baddington and the new homie Mel. Crozby. The third name on the bill is the phenomenal Cipherella who will be coming home to AL from her new home in NYC to rock with us. A DJ Called Phlip will be holding it down on the 1s & 2s.
Nerves Baddington (Birmingham, AL)
Nerves Baddington combine programming and live instrumentation in a unique and exciting manner on record and, especially onstage, where they take pride in delivering an impassioned performance. This DIY aesthetic makes Nerves Baddington a unique change of pace for a hip-hop or a rock bill. With energetic new songs, a revamped live show and an ear toward societal issues, Nerves Baddington is ready to turn heads, no matter the size of the stage or the diversity of the bill.
Cipherella (Tuscaloosa, AL / NY, NY)
Brandi “Cipherella” Stephney, also known as Omega Born, is a threateningly talented singer-songwriter, musician, prolific emcee, poet, humanitarian, and philosopher who is skilled in the art of storytelling. Born and raised in Tuscaloosa, AL, Cipherella sought refuge in New York City in 2013 to further her musical career and solidify herself as a artist contender. Since her arrival in the big apple, Cipherella has served as the host for New York’s longest running monthly open mic at the infamous NuYorican’s Poets café; she has been a contributing writer for M-Pire Magazine, and is currently a reappearing guest judge for Supreme Bars: The Ultimate Emcee and Producer Battle.
Mel. Crozby (Birmingham, AL)
New to the scene, Mel. Crozby’s recent release “The Free Tea E.P” is short, efficient, and chock full personality which he lets loose between sips of chamomile. The Birmingham, AL resident has been making waves, recently being selected to lead off LOBOTOMIX’s 8 Year Anniversary Show at Saturn. One of his aims is to be a role model for awkward kids everywhere. “If I can make you feel like you belong, then my mission’s complete.”
& A DJ Called Phlip on the 1’s & 2’s
Raised in a military family, A DJ Called Phlip spent his formative years following his parents around the world, skateboarding, soaking up cultures and music and pilfering his parents’ record collection. Today, all of his misspent youth comes out in eclectic mixes that cross genres and pay homage to his love of the weirder shades of music. Ranging from trip-hop to jazz, 70’s Nigerian funk and soul to underground hip hop and Detroit techno to Chicago house, his sets and his vibes are deep.
OPEN CYPHER AFTER THE LAST ACT FOR ALL THE EMCEES IN THE HOUSE – come out and show us if you’ve got bars… get seen, be part of the community. Hip Hop is about unity.
