IACP 43: An Alabama Feast
Welcome To Birmingham!
Welcome to the Magic City! Rolling hills of jungle-lush greenery intermingle with a revitalized downtown scene where gorgeous historic buildings hum with new life; parks and farmers’ markets teem with activity; a vibrant arts culture boasts world-class dancers, musicians, and artists; a tech hub makes national waves; and the culinary scene buzzes with creative chefs and adventurous epicures. Chef Frank Stitt’s Highlands Bar and Grill nabbed James Beard’s Most Outstanding Restaurant in America in 2019 and Chef Chris Hastings’ Hot and Hot Fish Club won Best Chef in the South in 2012—these honors stand among a sea of ongoing Birmingham James Beard nominees and semifinalists.
In the midst of this bustling city, Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark still stands, the beating heart of Birmingham’s birth. Incorporated in 1871 at the intersection of two railroads, this post-Civil War city was built on its mineral-rich resources for producing pig iron. Successful blast furnaces like Sloss attracted workers from a diverse spectrum of cultures who followed the “gospel of industrialism,” and seemingly overnight, a metropolis formed, earning the nickname “The Magic City.”
Today, Sloss Furnaces plays hosts to premier music and food festivals, weddings, art shows, photographers and visitors from all walks of life, and events like the 43rd IACP Conference! We are thrilled to announce not only Sloss Furnaces as our breathtaking venue, but also Pepper Place Entertainment District. A stone’s throw from Sloss, Pepper Place’s renovated warehouse spaces comprise 350,000 square feet of retail, office and workshop space, and a renowned farmers market—all of which have been celebrated in numerous newspaper and magazine articles and a CNN television feature. These sprawling outdoor spaces allow us to safely host our conference almost entirely in open-air venues. In addition, we have proof-of-vaccination protocols, mask mandates, and testing requirements in place as do all our venues.
We’ve done everything within our power to make IACP 43 as safe as possible. We know that you will make the personal decision that is best for you and yours. In the meantime, we are looking forward to ringing the dinner bell in full-hearted celebration of our togetherness at the Dinner Table of the South!Register Now
