People with disabilities from across the state gather to voice their concerns.
The State of Alabama Governor’s Office on Disability, Lakeshore Foundation and Disability Rights and Resources will host the inaugural Governor’s Disability Policy Summit. Governor Kay Ivey will give opening remarks from 9:30 am – 10 am. This event will include people with disabilities, their caregivers, services agencies and advocates from across the state of Alabama.
Accessible and affordable housing, transportation and employment are just a few of the topics that will be discussed at the Summit. This will be a consumer-driven day of disability advocacy and information. There will be themed panel sessions to talk about critical issues that affect everyday life for people with disabilities.
Chistopher Alvarez will be the keynote speaker. Mr. Alvarez is a bilingual disability activist and freelance journalist for the New York Times and contributing writer for NBC Latino. He will speak on how to navigate education, employment, and housing systems and how to advocate for services.
People with disabilities will be able to share their concerns and ideas that could help shape future policy decisions in the state of Alabama.
