Free Adoption/TIPS Classes – Hosted by Children’s Aid Society of Alabama

Children’s Aid Society of Alabama will begin a new cycle of Trauma Informed Partnering for Safety & Permanence (TIPS) group classes in the greater Birmingham area on March 14th.
All individuals and families interested in adopting a child in Alabama must take this class in order to adopt. Email bpopham@childrensaid.org with any questions.

COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT ADOPTION:
– You DO NOT have to own your own home. You can live in an apartment, a duplex, you can RENT your home. There is NO Requirement for HOME OWNERSHIP.
– YOU CAN adopt as a SINGLE parent, you don’t have to be married. Statistics show that about 30% of adoptions are from single parents.
– There is NO upper AGE LIMIT to adopt! You must be at least 19 yrs old, but there is no maximum age.
– You DO NOT have to be WEALTHY! “Families from all walks of life have adopted with the help of APAC.”
– You DO NOT have to FOSTER first, to become an Adoptive Parent. The children that APAC works with are already cleared for adoption through Alabama DHR.
– It DOES NOT cost a lot of MONEY to adopt when you partner with our APAC program. Many of the adoptions APAC helps with are covered by legal stipends, resulting in LOW or NO out of pocket expense for families.
– There are children of all ages waiting in Alabama’s foster care to find their forever families. In fact, there are hundreds of young people who will age out of foster care, without ever finding an adoptive home. You can be BIG part of the solution.
