● New Group Art Exhibition Explores Black Culture and Representation in Contemporary Art
● A portion of the proceeds will go to the Fairfield High Preparatory School marching band.

The Fairfield Black Art Collective (#FBAC) is a new arts initiative composed of a group of talented and dedicated Black artists from Fairfield, AL who have come together to promote and showcase the work of black artists. Their mission is to provide a platform for African American artists to share their unique perspectives and experiences through their art. While also creating a space to celebrate our roots, honor those who paved the way for us, and to embolden those coming behind us.

FBAC is proud to announce their inaugural event, “Cultural Collateral, A Curated Black Experience” a powerful group art exhibition showcasing the works of Black artists from Fairfield, Birmingham, and the surrounding areas. This event will also benefit the FHPS marching band to continue efforts to support the existing fine arts programs in the Fairfield City Schools. The exhibition will take place on May 21 from 3pm to 6pm at P.E.P.S., located at 1612 3rd Avenue North, Birmingham, AL.

“Cultural Collateral” is centered around the theme of the appropriation of black culture into the mainstream and how the participating artists interpret and respond to this phenomenon through their art. The exhibition features a diverse range of mediums, including painting, photography, and mixed media, providing visitors with a dynamic and engaging collection of works that challenge stereotypes and offer fresh perspectives on the black experience.

“Cultural Collateral” invites visitors to engage in a critical reflection on the complex and nuanced issues of cultural identity, appropriation, and how this translates through the black experience

Visitors to the exhibition can expect to see works from some of the most talented Black artists in the region. The show offers an opportunity to discover the rich diversity of artistic expression and styles within the Black community.

In the words of the exhibition’s curator, “Cultural Collateral is a must-see show for anyone interested in understanding this theory through the lens of black culture. We hope that visitors will leave the exhibition feeling inspired and empowered to continue the important conversations about race, representation, and cultural appropriation in contemporary art.”

The exhibition is open to the public and free of charge. Don’t miss your chance to experience this unique and thought-provoking collection of works, become a collector of original art from emerging /veteran artists, and support a great cause.
