October 11, 2021 @ 9:30 am - 3:30 pm

highres 499167808 2jNjJa.tmp Columbus Day Sipsey Wilderness Hike to White Falls & Valentine Pool // 7.8 miles

This will be a hike to see White Falls proper, its upper falls, and Valentine Pool located in the Sipsey Wilderness (Double Springs, Al.)

We will meet at Randolph Trailhead at 9:30am and start the hike at 10:00am.

Due to restrictions on group sizes in Bankhead for conservation purposes, this hike will be limited to 10 people.

This will be an ~8 mile moderate/difficult hike with ~700′ of elevation gain.

We will start at Randolph trailhead, information on Google maps is below. This trailhead is right off of Cranal Road. When parking, make sure not to block the swing gate on the West Side as this is used for emergency support vehicles and you will likely get a ticket.

From Randolph trailhead, we will follow the Sipsey 201 trail for ~2 mile. This portion is basically a walk through the woods. Once we get to the split where the 209 trail ties in, we will go straight and follow the 201 trail all the way to the Sipsey River. We will then follow the Sipsey River downstream until we reach White Creek and follow it up to the falls.

Once there, we can get on top of the falls to the upper falls section and Valentine Pool is. This area is very picturesque and great for photos, hanging out, and swimming in the pool if desired.

We will then back track the path we came until we get to the Sipsey 209 trail and follow it back to the Sipsey 201 trail and backtrack to the beginning at Randolph trailhead.

If you’ve never been in the Sipsey before, be sure to bring your camera as it’s quite grand out there and lots of great photo opportunities.

There will be an optional late lunch/early dinner afterwards at Sapore Grill in Double Springs afterwards, they have some awesome Italian food.

Do note that there is no cell reception pretty much once you enter Bankhead Forest, and definitely not in the Sipsey.

The weather is always an unknown factor unfortunately. As a result, if we’re getting close to the meet up date and chance of rain is high, will likely cancel unless folks don’t mind hiking in the rain.
