Today marked the final day of the Mercedes-Benz marathon. Runners warmed up and got on the line to complete the half marathon and full marathon event. It took off at around 7:00 A.M. and participants of all causes went out with a bang. Friends and family cheered on their loved ones at different landmarks as they ran through downtown Birmingham. This winter, for several weeks, we have been enjoying a taste of spring in Birmingham. It’s been perfect running weather for the serious or casual runners.
Last Saturday in Homewood, nature lovers and people of all ages, got to meet their “friendly neighborhood salamanders” at The Friends of Shades Creek’s 13th Annual Salamander Festival.
One of the most exciting exhibits at the festival was getting to hold the salamanders. Children and adults lined up to “wet” their hands and have the chance to hold the yellow spotted salamanders. It drew quite the crowd.
Today, the board and officers were announced for the Birmingham Business Alliance (BBA).
Dr. Ray Watts, president of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, has been re-elected as the 2017 Chairman of the Board. This will be Watts second consecutive year as the chairman.
“I am pleased to continue the great momentum created in the last year by serving another year as chairman,” Watts said.
