As the weather in Birmingham is finally cooling off, it’s time to say goodbye for now to many outdoor activities that we all love, like swimming at Oak Mountain. Because of this, it can be hard to find ways to stay active during the colder months, especially ways that make it fun.

Thankfully, there are plenty of indoor activities located around Birmingham that will get you up, on your feet and having a blast. Here are six locations with great indoor activities for this fall and winter season.

1. Ice skate at the Pelham Civic Complex

Though it does involve ice, this is a great indoor activity to bundle up and get your blood flowing.

The Pelham Civic Complex contains two ice rinks that are available to the public year-round. Anyone wishing to skate can check the calendar on the Civic Center’s website and see when public skate sessions are available.

The arena also offers figure skating, recreational skating and hockey lessons to students of all ages and experience levels, proving it’s never too late to learn a new skill.

2. Forma Arts + Wellness

Located on 3rd Ave N in Downtown Birmingham, Forma Arts + Wellness is a studio space with a little bit of everything to offer.

Though the studio primarily hosts dance lessons of various styles, studio space can also be used for yoga, cardio classes and other group activities. Attendees don’t even have to be skilled in dancing to take classes, with levels ranging from beginner to advanced.

Additionally, these classes are commitment-free, meaning you can pay to attend individual classes whenever you’d like.

Additionally, Skates 280 is also known to host special skating events and holiday events throughout the year, including Turkey Time, Super Bowl Sunday and Smack Out Cancer. Those wishing to learn how to skate can come and take free lessons on Saturdays.

Another classic indoor activity, bowling is sure to get you up and moving during chilly weather season.

Though there are multiple bowling alleys located around Birmingham, the Bowlero Riverview location on 280 has a lot to offer. Along with bowling, the location offers an arcade, billiards and a sports bar.

Bowlero Riverview is also available to host parties for the office, kids, teens and adults.

If you’ve ever wanted to throw an axe without consequences, this is the place to do it.

Also called hatchet throwing, this activity has been likened to an extreme version of throwing darts. Located on 4th Ave S in Downtown Birmingham, Civil Axe Throwing will give your whole body a workout as you launch axes at wooden targets across the room.

Walk-ins are always welcome, but Civil Axe recommends that you schedule a time to throw ahead to ensure that you get to wield an axe.
