Got Veteran’s Day travel plans? Be prepared for potential delays and detours traveling through downtown Birmingham, beginning on the evening of Sunday, November 11th.

For motorists traveling through Downtown Birmingham on I-65 Northbound, I-65 Southbound, I-59/20 Southbound, Red Mountain Expressway, and Carraway Blvd, this Veterans Day holiday and week, the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) released on Friday, November 9th, a list of lane and ramp closures.

Here is the list of closure and the work that is going to be performed:

Closure Sunday, November 11-12 – Red Mountain Expressway NB

The Red Mountain Expressway NB ramp onto I-59/20 NB will be closed Sunday, November 11th and Monday, November 12th from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. for Barrier Rail Installation and Bridge Cap construction.

Closure Monday, November 12 – I-65 SB off ramp to 17th Street

The I-65 SB off ramp to 17th Street will be closed Monday, November 12th, from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. for Exit Cap Modifications.

Closure Monday, November 12-13 – I-59/20 SB Exit Ramp to Carraway Blvd

The I-59/20 SB Exit Ramp to Carraway Blvd. will be closed Monday, November 12th, and Tuesday, November 13th, while the contractor works on Overhang Jacks.

Closure Tuesday, November 13 – I-65 SB off ramp to 6th Avenue North

The I-65 SB off ramp to 6th Avenue North will be closed Tuesday, November 13th, from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. for Exit Cap Modifications.

Closure Monday, November 12-15 – Carraway Blvd. Northbound

Carraway Blvd. Northbound will close between 11p.m. and 5 a.m. each of the following nights, Monday, November 12th through Thursday, November 15th for Median and Island Demolition.

ALDOT will have detour and speed limit signs out.  Be mindful, depending on the weather and other factors these construction plans can change.
