Attention all NBA fans! Being a professional basketball supporter in Birmingham can be a struggle. Especially since there’s no local team to support. Many of us have never even been to an NBA game. Well, thanks to the BBVA Compass Iron City Showdown, that could change pretty soon.

The Iron City Showdown is an NBA exhibition game that will take place at the BJCC’s Legacy Arena this Tuesday, October 2, at 7pm. The Houston Rockets will face the Memphis Grizzlies in Birmingham’s first professional basketball game in 12 years.

Nothin’ but net, Birmingham.

BBVA Compass‘s relationship with the Houston Rockets made this high-profile event happen. The bank is headquartered in Birmingham, so it makes sense for it to bring Birmingham this gameday experience unlike one we’ve ever seen. Earlier this summer, BBVA Compass also committed to refurbishing the court for this event and future events.

“This is more than a single evening game to everyone involved in making this possible,” said BBVA Compass Birmingham CEO Andrea Smith earlier this summer. “This is about creating opportunities for the city, its people and its communities in the days and months leading up to it…The game will also be a platform to elevate the city in multiple ways.”

Sports: the best way to bring us together.

BBVA Compass continues to show it’s commitment to Birmingham, and sees this event as an opportunity to bring people together and celebrate the communities throughout the city. A portion of the ticket’s proceeds will be donated to the Birmingham Athletic Partnership, an organization committed to enhancing Birmingham’s athletic departments’ abilities to provide the necessary leadership, education, facilities and equipment.

To ensure fans are getting the full gameday experience, the Houston Rockets will bring their mascot, Clutch, and the Rockets Power Dancers, as well as other in-game entertainment.  The NBA’s Most Valuable Player, James Harden, will also be there.

I want to witness history. How do I get my tix?

Tickets start at just $15, and can be purchased at www.ironcityshowdown.com. The doors will open several hours before tip-off, so head to the arena early for all the fun pre-game festivities!

What a *game-changing* (see what I did there?) opportunity this is for Birmingham! Will you be there?
