Midici Italian Kitchen makes its debut in Birmingham this Saturday, September 22, in Mountain Brook.  Bham Now got early access and guess what?  It just happened to be my birthday so I got the ‘duty’ of checking it out. Read on for the mouthwatering details.

Pizza + friends = a match made in Heaven

Midici’s walls are covered in greenery and positive quotes highlighting the importance of surrounding yourself with good people.

Above the two golden wood-fired pizza ovens, the wall reads “people are the best thing that can happen to anyone.” Midici’s vibe is all about making connections and memories with people you love. I can dig that.

Olive tree in the middle of the dining room imported straight from Italy. Fantastico! Photo by Lauren Bedford of Bham Now

It’s not every day you enter a restaurant and see a giant tree in the center of the dining room. Each MidiCi restaurant features an authentic black olive tree imported from Italy, much like most of the ingredients they use to make their next-level Italian cuisine.

From the flour used to make pizza dough and the Italian tomatoes, all the way to the fresh mozzarella topping the pizzas, each ingredient is sourced from Italy and of excellent quality.

Every single table around us ordered Burrata Caprese, so we followed suit. We can’t be left out, right? It was PERFECT for sharing (if you’re open to that sort of thing. Sharing isn’t really my style.)

Sugar, spice, and a large pizza slice.

I found myself wanting to order every pizza that passed our table, which was a problem. The menu features pizzas for every craving, including Hawaiian, Shrimp Scampi and even Egg and Bacon. We decided on the Truffle and Vegetable, which was a wonderful choice.  Each pizza has just the right amount of toppings for the pizza crust to support (weak pizza crust is a DEAL BREAKER) and the combinations meshed together in perfect pizza harmony.

My only regret? I didn’t spot the Nutella Calzone until we were on our way out of the restaurant. *Sigh.* What could have been. Oh well, there’s always my next visit.
