What if I told you that you could head over to Vulcan Park and Museum this fall and see six amazing bands play? Oh, and that you’ll be relaxing on a blanket in the crisp fall air overlooking the city of Birmingham with a local craft beer and Eugene’s Hot Chicken in hand? Or perhaps a taco from Cantina on Wheels?  Read on, my friend, for how to grab your ticket. 

What Is Vulcan AfterTunes?

Vulcan AfterTunes is a fall concert series that happens at Vulcan Park and Museum. This year is the 14th anniversary of the series, and will feature three installments.  The dates are all on Sundays opening at 1:00pm;

The series, presented by Vulcan Painters Inc., will be held on the overlook at Vulcan Park and Museum. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chairs to relax and enjoy the show. Although outside food and alcohol is forbidden, the staff at Vulcan has you taken care of with food trucks, beer, wine and soft drinks.

Featured food trucks include Cantina On Wheels and Eugene’s Hot Chicken, while local and regional beer will be provided by AlaBev and wine selections will be provided by Piggly Wiggly Birmingham.

This is a family-friendly event with a kids zone provided by Babypalooza Magazine.

September 23

For the September 23 date, expect some fun indie tunes from Los Colognes with an opening set from local favorite Duquette Johnston. Los Colognes is a buzzy band from Nashville that is known for its jam-oriented, insightful songs. Opening is Duquette Johnston, a Birmingham local who co-owns the popular Woodlawn store, Club Duquette, with his wife. He is a singer-songwriter whose music has garnered national attention.

October 7

The October 7 show will provide tunes from Iron Horse, a bluegrass band from Killen, Alabama.  Iron Horse produces original music as well as bluegrass covers of popular songs like “Enter Sandman” and “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” Will Stewart of Birmingham will open with his blend of country-indie-rock music. You may have heard his popular song “Sipsey” on Birmingham Mountain Radio.

October 21

On October 21, Americana band Great Peacock  will close the concert series. They are making a name for themselves in the industry by being known for their great songwriting and incredible live performances. Opening for Great Peacock is indie singer-songwriter Maddie Medley. Maddie is a Nashville-based artist whose confident live performances are drawing attention from around the country.

EVENT DETAILS:

    • General admission $12 in advance; $15 at the gate
    • Limited VIP Tickets $25 (includes front row viewing, use of stadium chair and two drink tickets)
    • Members $10 in advance; $12 at the gate
    • Children $5; Ages 4 and under are free
    • Gates open at 1:00 p.m.; Opening acts begin at 3:00 p.m.; Headline acts begin at 4:00 p.m.
    • Ticket price includes admission to the concert, the Vulcan Center Museum, and Vulcan’s observation tower
    • Seating is first-come, first served and visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets
    • Beer, wine and soft drinks will be available for purchase and onsite food truck vendors will be accessible
    • No pets or outside alcohol allowed
    • Onsite parking is limited; shuttles will be available to overflow parking lot
