Bham Now Nature Roundup for the week of June 16, 2018

Welcome to the Bham Now Nature Roundup for the week of June 16.

When it come to trails, the Birmingham region is on a roll. This past March, the Kiwanis Vulcan Trail opened, and according to the Freshwater Land Trust, almost 8,000 people have taken a journey down the beautifully restored urban trail.

Meanwhile, last week, Red Mountain Park reported the good news that in partnership with ADEM they have removed over 20,000 scrap tires from the park, along with 4100 tons of garbage. That’s not a mis-print – TONS of trash.

In addition to the news from Red Mountain , more good news came out last week from Birmingham’s City Hall, with Mayor Randall Woodfin’s announcement that he made Gasp’s Clean Energy pledge.

Overall, the summer is off to a good start for folks who care about nature and the environment.
