4 popular Birmingham neighborhood restaurants received their health inspection scores over the past 30 day, since Bham Now last reported scores in mid-April.
As part of a new public service, Bham Now is periodically publishing Jefferson County Department of Health restaurant inspection scores and profiling local places that were scored in the past few weeks.
How are the inspections conducted?
According to the Jefferson County Department of Health, the agency, “regularly inspects establishments in Jefferson County where food is prepared or sold for human consumption. Two Type of inspections, scored and alternative (non-scored), are performed throughout the year.”
The food service inspection scores are updated regularly on the Jefferson County Department of Health website.
In this food service inspection edition, we wanted to recognize the scores received since April 15th of 4 popular locally based neighborhood restaurants.
Let’s start with a Five Points favorite:
Ocean – 94
Located in Five Points, Ocean has been highly decorated winning multiple awards including the Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator and Winner of the AAA Four Diamond award for the past twelve years.
Little Savannah – 92

Filling Station – 97
Established in 2015, the Filling Station has become a Crestwood Neighborhood favorite. Strategically located near Crestwood Park, the place is dog friendly and one of the best places to meet your neighbors. And the food? The Filling Station’s motto says it best. “Arrive on empty, leave on full!”
Crestline Bagel – 92
Earlier this year, Bham Now featured Crestline Bagel after it had been named one of the top bagel shops in America. Located in Mountain Brook’s Crestline Village neighborhood, the bustling bagel shop owned by Ralph and Jennifer Yarbrough is known for its customer-centered attention to detail and their “pursuit” to make the perfect bagel.
