You’ve heard of the seven deadly sins – wrath, envy, gluttony, greed, lust, pride, and sloth. But have you ever considered what sins the state you live in falls most victim to?

A new study by WalletHub did. And their findings are pretty interesting.

In order to determine the most sinful states in America, WalletHub compared the 50 states across seven key dimensions:

  1. Anger and Hatred
  2. Jealousy
  3. Excesses and Vices
  4. Greed
  5. Lust
  6. Vanity
  7. Laziness

In other words, the seven deadly sins.

So where did Alabama land on the list?

Nope, we weren’t No. 1 if that’s what you were thinking. Alabama actually took the No. 11 spot. Phew! Wait… 11th? But there are 50 states.

We may have missed the top 10 on WalletHub’s list of most sinful states in America, but not by much! Maybe Sweet Home Alabama isn’t so sweet after all.

So let’s take a closer look at the list, shall we?

Here’s how Alabama ranked in the top 50 for most sinful state. (No. 1 = Most sinful.)

  • Anger and Hatred – 9th
  • Jealousy – 14th
  • Excesses and Vices – 9th
  • Greed – 33rd
  • Lust – 7th
  • Vanity – 33rd
  • Laziness – 5th

It appears laziness is our biggest downfall here in the South, but we appear to be rather lustful, too.

Out of all 50 states, can you guess who made the top spot as most sinful?

If you guessed Florida, you are correct! The sunshine state appears to be much darker than its state motto would suggest.

According to WalletHub, Florida’s biggest sin is jealousy. Well, we can’t all look phenomenal in bathing suits as we strut down the beach, can we?

Here’s the list for which states claimed the most sinful spot in each category:

  • Anger – Tennessee
  • Jealousy – Florida
  • Excesses and Vices – Ohio
  • Greed – Nevada
  • Lust – Texas
  • Vanity – New York
  • Laziness  – Nevada

If you want to live in the most “well behaved” state, then you better pack your bags and move to Vermont, because they were nearly sinless in most of the categories. They landed in 46th place for vanity and laziness and 50th place for lust and jealousy.

Check out the full list here.

Quite a list, huh? What do you think of these findings?
