The National Weather Service in Birmingham and local television stations are issuing  winter weather advisories in Alabama for Tuesday, January 16th.  Snow is on the way.The conditions for tomorrow are reminding forecasters of the ice/snow storm Birmingham experienced in 2014.  That particular weather event, which was called Snowmageddon, occurred in mid-morning causing streets to ice over, and creating treacherous travel conditions.

Here is video from that storm almost 4 years ago.

Much like the storm in 2014, snow is expected to hit Birmingham tomorrow near noon.

Here is a sampling of  local weather forecasts warning that tomorrow’s conditions could are similar to 2014.

WBRC’s Wes Wyatt, Meteorologist First Alert Weather Day

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY has been issued for tomorrow. Now is the time to prepare and I would consider rescheduling any plans you have for the afternoon and evening. DO NOT WAIT for snow to start at your location before you head home, if you are working tomorrow or running errands, leave before the snow arrives so you know you’ll make it to your destination safely. Just like back in 2014, as soon as the snow started, the ice quickly formed, and people were sliding and stuck. We don’t want a Snowmageddon repeat, so we are encouraging you to avoid travel late tomorrow based on what we know today.

James Spann – Alabama WX Weather Blog

In the video below with the latest update on the Winter Weather Advisory, James Spann reminds us that Birmingham experienced 50 degree weather much like today, the day before the 2014 Snowmageddon struck Alabama.

Here is his forecast for tomorrow:

We encourage our Bham Now readers to closely monitor the weather over the next couple of days. Below are links to the local television stations and their weather forecasts;

WBRC Fox 6
WVTM NBC 13
ABC 33/40
WIAT CBS 42

The National Weather Service Birmingham’s Facebook page is also a great resource.

Let’s hope conditions change for the better and no repeat of 2014’s Snowmageddon.  Be safe Birmingham!
