Birmingham’s Five Points South; new businesses make life convenient and enjoyable
Where will you be able to grab a beer, fresh tamales, and get your haircut all within a block of each other? FIVE POINTS SOUTH!
As someone relatively new to Birmingham, I can say that while I didn’t know much about all the cool, revitalized neighborhoods in the city, I did know about Five Points.
Everyone in the state has heard some reference to the National Register of Historic Places neighborhood of Five Points SOUTH. It was the first street-car lined suburb and was founded as the Town of Highland in 1887. It’s where our pride and joy, the amazing Highland’s Bar and Grill is located, and home of the classic The Original Pancake House Restaurant.
In the years since the street cars, Five Points has been a busy, bustling area of restaurants and retailers. It has also seen downturns and had its share of vacancies.
That’s about to change!
KH management, which manages several Five Points South properties is excited to announce some new, really cool businesses coming in 2018. A sports bar, a new restaurant, a men’s barbershop and a Vivant Inc. A technology sales office, are among several of the new tenants planned.
“We are particularly excited about the momentum we’ve been able to build in the Five Points market this fall,” said Evan Miller of KH Management.
The first new tenant is Sleek Sports Bar, already open, right across the street from the quite swank, Homewood Suites hotel and next door to The Break, where developers plan a 17-story student housing apartment tower.
Ryan Pryor, a Birmingham police office for more than 15 years, operates Sleek. He is confident his law-enforcement background will ensure the sports bar is safe, up to code and a fun place to watch college sports and plot out your Fantasy Football strategy! Sleek offers 21 draft beers and a deep food menu.
Pryor said he thinks this sports bar will be a huge success, especially since it will eventually be connected to the new student apartment high-rise. What could be better than a sports bar on site! No worrisome driving required!
D’s Tamales: Everyone loves tamales, and soon you’ll be able to grab one in Five Points South.
Darryl Crockett and Maria Patterson, are expanding D’s Tamales from Hueytown to Five Points, and expect to be dishing out flavorful tamales, and American classics early next year!
Haircuts are a necessity, and sometimes they can be life altering! A new high-end barber shop, Stephen Gregory is planned for Five Points. Stephen Gregory was formerly a national director for Regis Salons.
These new businesses will bring the vacancy rate way down to 4.4%. There are a few spots left…
