Your current councilor is Marcus Lundy. He is not seeking re-election.  Other District 9 candidates include: Eric Hall, John Hilliard, Wendell Majors, Roderick Royal and Reginald Swanson. Links to the candidates we’ve interviewed so far can be found at the bottom of this post.

Candidate Interview
When did you officially announce your candidacy and where/how did you do it?
“June 8th. We did a celebration and fundraiser at Carter’s Sports Bar and Grille in ACIPCO.”
What is the name of your principal campaign committee?
“I am the sole proprietor.”
Why do you want to run for Birmingham City Council?
“It’s time for new people, new ideas, new vision in our city. We live in the second worst city in the country. It’s definitely time for a new choice.”

What is your background, education and experience?
“I was educated in the Birmingham school system. I served my country in Desert Storm with the United States Marine Corps. I currently work at 98.7 Today’s Kiss as on-air personality, J. Love.
“I have worked behind the scenes over the past 15 years in numerous campaigns from presidents, mayors, city councilors, and senators. I also co-founded the Pratt City Youth Athletic Association, which featured sports programs, cheerleading and mentoring.”
How will you foster a healthy, working relationship between the mayor’s office and the Birmingham City Council/city hall?
“It’s not that hard because I already have a positive, working relationship with the mayor and the council.”
How will you accomplish transparency with the residents of Birmingham, if elected?
“Transparency is very important, and most of the councilors work is public record. So, I would insist citizens do their research or just come to our office and see for themselves.”
