Easily one of the most anticipated and beneficial developments for Birmingham of 2016 and 2017.
With the introduction of living space, retail parcels, and the much deserved Publix, this area of Southside continues to grow.

20 Midtown – Recap
Phase one of the 20 Midtown, three part, development continues to thrive since its beginning.
Resting on the corner of 3rd Ave. and 20th st. South, Birminghamians can enjoy living, grubbing, and/or sipping coffee in this mixed-use building.

The five story building is next door to the most anticipated development of 20 Midtown, and simply the “game changer” for the city, Publix.
Simply put, the opening of the 20 Midtown Publix continues to be accompanied by excitement and a reaffirmed vision for our growing city.

“The Publix opening is the culmination of a lot of work, integrally with Publix and with the city.
It’s going to be an integral part… the city needs a grocery store so the ara knows its growth potential.
– Dick Schmalz told Bham Now back in January

The second phase, also a mixed-use, offers residential space and plenty of parking for those shopping in the grocery store and/or living upstairs.
20 Midtown – Phase Three
As recently reported by al.com, the largest section of this three part development has been given approval for construction; beginning in 45 days.
Developers, Dick Schmalz (SRS Realty) and Scott Bryant (Scott M. Bryant & Co.), continue to lead the project off of the anchor and excitement that Publix has created.

“We are trying to be good stewards of the momentum that the Publix opening is presenting,” Schmalz proclaimed in January before the Publix opening.
Again, following the mixed-use plan, this integral part will host retail parcels on 40,000 sq. feet, residential space and a fourth floor deck with several amenities…
- 25 by 85 ft. Pool
- Putting Green
- Gas Grills
- Bocce Ball
- Fitness Center

Initial interest from a few retail tenants has been expressed, but no name dropping has occurred, at this point.
As reported, the developers said there is a lot of excitement from people whom they have showed plans to; many calling it a country club style!
Phase 3 is said to be completed near the end of 2018, starting in about 45 days!

By and large, there are many key developments spurring plenty of excitement in the Magic City, and it’s safe to say that 20 Midtown is among the most extensive.
