Sport and Fitness events happening this weekend in Birmingham

Whether you have plans for this Saturday, or not, the greater-Birmingham area has a lot going on this weekend. Put on your best fitness gear and enjoy the sunny weekend with these events here in the ‘Ham.

Phoenix Combine presented by the Phoenix Club of Birmingham

April 22, 2017 at Samford Track and Soccer Complex at 8:00 A.M.

Up to 225 male and female competitors will put their speed, strength, endurance, and agility to the test. The Phoenix Club Charity Combine features 10 athletic events which serve as a customized sport Pro Day. The ultimate purpose for this event is to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club of Central Alabama. In doing so, competitors are required to raise at least $500 that will go toward a new bus for the boys and girls. Some of the events are the 400-meter run, football throw, pull-ups, the 40-yard dash and plenty more.  If you’re interested in competing, register here. If you want to support, then head out the Samford Track and Soccer Complex and cheer them on.

Quarry Crusher Run

Location: Vulcan Materials Dolcito Quarry, 2101 Pinson Valley Parkway, Tarrant City, AL 35217

Get ready to rock the Quarry! This sports event is unique as it is a hillside quarry where you will start in the middle, run to the top then to the bottom. You will experience 700 feet in elevation change on this route. Registration will include an official T-shirt and a finishers medal, however competitors who registered earlier in advance are more guaranteed a shirt. The proceeds will benefit the Tarrant city schools.

Quarry Crusher Run (3.7 miles) – $40
Double Crusher Run (7.4 miles) – $50

There are discounts for First Responders, military and students! Please remember that you must be at least 12 years and older to participate in this event.

Alabama Football’s Golden Flake A-Day

April 22, 2017 at Bryant Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. at 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

While this isn’t actually happening in the ‘Ham, it’s still a huge deal and isn’t too far. Don’t miss the Alabama Crimson Tide’s Spring game this Saturday at Bryant Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala. There’s a whole day of events planned to bring in the 2017 football season. For more details, check out their Facebook event.

FREE Yoga at American Thread with Shannon Hancock Yoga

Enjoy this free yoga event and bring your friends to American Thread in the Summit. Get fit and prepare for an awesome hour of yoga with your instructor, Shannon Hancock. Hancock offers private yoga or yoga therapy classes/instruction and public classes! She’s available in-home or through many public classes at studios in Birmingham (such as this event).
