The Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra is bringing Birmingham a 5K with a beat. On Saturday March 11, 2017, The ASYO will host the Beat Beethoven 5K at Red Mountain Park where song and sweat collide.
The 5K event will kick off at 9:00 A.M. and at 9:15 A.M. there will be a 1 Mile Fun Run for runners who aren’t up to the 5K, but still want to join in the action. If running isn’t your forte, but you still want to contribute, there is also a sleep-in opportunity available. This event is pet friendly, so even your four-legged family members are able to join.
The Beat Beethoven 5K is an opportunity for the musicians to reach out to a new audience, runners. The ASYO musicians will play live music from Beethoven throughout the course while the runners complete their races. The proceeds from the event will go toward ASYO scholarships for the 2017-2018 season.
Registration Prices and details:
$30 – 5K (Registration ends March 10)
$25 – 1 Mile Fun Run (Registration ends March 10)
$15 – Sleep-in option (Registration ends March 9)
“ASYO has musicians from eight counties and 25 schools and the students who audition play difficult music,” Susanne Thomas, the president of the parent committee said. “Some of these students would be unable to participate if it wasn’t for scholarship opportunities.”
Those who sign up will receive a ticket to the Youth Symphony Side by Side concert where the Youth Symphony plays with the Alabama Symphony in concert. Participants will also receive a T-shirt and other goodies in their bag at registration.
The Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra is the official youth orchestra of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, and is an ensemble dedicated to nurturing talented young musicians in the state of Alabama. Members of the ASYO rehearse regularly with the musicians and conductors of the ASO and perform concerts spanning from standard orchestral repertoire to pops and chamber music.
