The Birmingham Awesome Foundation sure knows the importance of innovation. This year they chose the UAB Solar Decathlon team for their monthly $1000 grant.

With over $2 million granted to 2,462 different projects, The Awesome Foundation is not a stranger to different ideas. Actually, they are looking for crazy, brilliant ideas and that’s just what they found at UAB.

Solar Decathalon gets Awesome Award Grant

UAB is one of 14 collegiate interdisciplinary teams selected to take part in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon 2017 competition. They will be designing, constructing, and testing a house that is completely solar-powered.

Their idea was inspired by the string of devastating tornadoes in 2011 that damaged entire communities in Alabama. Their design, s u r v i v (A L) house, will be a model for housing that will withstand tornadoes.

Join UAB’s Solar Decathlon team on January 26th at 6:30 pm as they accept the inaugural Awesome Award from the Birmingham Awesome Foundation. It will be hosted at Carrigan’s Public House.
