Coming to a theater near you… (more specifically, the Comedy Club Stardome in Hoover), in what’s best described as “this political season’s comedy blockbuster”, Lady and the Drumpf The Musical is slated to make jabs at politics on all levels, ranging from local to the ultimate future POTUS – and we can’t wait.
Positively Funny Inc., a professional comedy and improv company based in Birmingham, is the genius behind the full length musical set to premiere in October.
David Grissom – the show’s creator, retired comedy writer, and Founder of Positively Funny Inc. – came up with the idea after hearing the news of Donald Drumpf’s announcement to run for President.
“As a comedy company, we are so thankful for this past political year. It has given us some amazing fodder which has culminated in the ‘Lady and the Drumpf.’ production,” explains Grissom. “This is PFI’s first major staged comedy musical production written by our own in-house writing team to take to the stage in Birmingham.”
Thanks to the talented folks at PFI, Lady and the Drumpf became more than an idea and is now a highly anticipated event. Along with Grissom, the team is composed of Executive Writer Ty Malugani, Staff Writers Adam Drake, Kaci Hindman, and Chris Coffee, Contributing Writer, Joe Hobby, and Musical Director, Russ Maddox.
With the song titles being parodies of popular songs, it is only assumed that they will be super catchy as well. And if we are already cracking up a just the titles, well, this only excites us more for the full show. Some original songs include:
- “Superhomophobicjudgewhosreallyquiteobnoxious” (a Judge Roy Moore tribute)
- “Hillary’s Got Her Pants Suit On”
- “Springtime for Donald”
- “Shut Up About Benghazi”
- “Suddenly Sanders”
According to PFI’s media release, the company and The Stardome began a partnership in March of this year to create a stronger comedy entertainment venue for “Birmingham and the Southeast.” Stardome owner Bruce Ayers stated that Lady and the Drumpf is The Stardome’s “very first in-house developed comedy musical production” – and may we add that we are excited to see it and all the great things that will follow!
