UAB’s Student Food and Supply Pantry battles student food insecurity

With over 19,000 students, you should not be surprised to hear that 20% of UAB students might not know when there next meal will be. Thanks to the Student Advocacy, Rights and Conduct staff those same students will no longer have to worry.

By offering free food, school supplies, and toiletry items, students have the support they need to help them through financial need and food insecurity. The Pantry is donation based and offers drop off and pick up locations. They accept items such as nonperishable foods, binders, index cards, soap, deodorant, toothbrushes, anything a college student would need to get by.

Throughout the year, donation drives are held campus wide. “Feed the Pig,” the current fundraiser, involves 850 little green piggy banks that students will use to help raise money for the cause. “Feed the Pig” ends on November 9th with a pig roast on the Campus Green.
