Milo’s Expands into Montgomery

Once more, a Birmingham business is ever-expanding.

The first Milo’s location in Montgomery opened today at 6:00 am.

The first 100 dine-in customers on opening day will get a Milo’s hat; the first 100 on Sept. 1 get a punch card for a variety of free menu items; and the first 100 on Sept. 2 get a card for a free Milo’s biscuit.

There is a lot to say about this locally grown business. Although slow to develop around Alabama, it has been a favorite among this southern state for years. Some say it’s the sauce that makes Milo’s special, or the little extra piece received under the bun, but no matter what, it’s hard work that allowed it to prevail for all these years.

Starting in 1946, Milo Carlton wanted to make people smile while enjoying a savory southern burger. He was serving as a mess cook in the U.S. army when deciding to open his burger shop. The secret to his success was that the sauce was “listening”.

Milo believed in the integrity of hard work, giving people a little something extra, and having the courage to follow what his customers said instead of what other businesses were doing.


Success/innovation is driven by the customer. Without listening to them, how can you ever improve?
