A Christian Woodstock? Now that’s Ironic

This Saturday, August 27th, Chilton County will host its 20th annual En Fuego concert. This is said to be the largest Christian concert series in Alabama.

En Fuego, meaning “On Fire” in Spanish, will feature huge names in Christian music such Mercy Me, Landers and Blanca, Colton Dixon and Natalie Grant! This is always a huge event for the small town of Verbena and this year they are expecting around 20,000 in attendance.

“Our mission was simple: to get people around a bonfire, get on fire for Jesus. That’s where it really began, as a time of worship and evangelistic outreach.”

-Johnny Giles, Chairmen or En Fuego

“This year, the budget is $155,000 for the event, he said. That’s the largest ever and twice as high as the previous budget. The event relies on corporate support, donations, vendor fees and a love offering taken up during the concert.” – Greg Garrison, Al.com

It may be ironic, seeing as the infamous Woodstock back in the late 60’s was filled with sex, drugs, and rock and roll, but the two have some things in common; From residing on farm land out in the middle of nowhere, and featuring huge artists in their respected genres.
I am sure Verbena does not want you to get the two confused, but for the sake of marketing, I say they keep rolling with the small comparisons, it may get the attention of unlikely people.
