UAB Solar Project Launches on Top of @UABcampusrec

With an age of Technology at the door steps of most industries, adaptation is key.

UAB has caught onto the trend, and has applied solar panels to the roof of their 3 story recreational center. Although the ROI is about a 20 year venture, they say it will be providing 10% of free energy to the building, after that time.

UAB Launches Energy Program

The federal government does offer tax incentives to companies that install solar panels. This can make the payback time less than 10 years. But UAB is exempt, so their payback will be closer to 20 years. After that, Price says, the energy being produced by the system – roughly 10 percent of the Rec Center’s daily usage – will be free energy.
