Bham Now has confirmed Hickory Tavern in Brookwood Village has closed. The North Carolina-based chain opened in The Magic City back in 2015 with a full bar and selection of 40 different wines and 100 beers. As of today, only Five Guys, the popular burger and fries (and peanuts) joint, remains on the mall property.

“It’s one more business (Hickory Tavern) vacating Brookwood Village. Presently we (city of Homweood) don’t have proposals from the land developers and owners for the property. Until they bring something to the city, it’s just going to continue to be a big, empty piece of property that is such an important piece of real estate to both Homewood and Mountain Brook.”

Last year we reported that the majority of Brookwood Village had been acquired by Birmingham-based Fairway Investments and Atlanta-based Pope & Land Real Estate for $21 million. Months later, the same group purchased the next-door Brookwood Office Center for $55 million.

Opened in 1974, Brookwood Village resides on the border between Mountain Brook and Homewood—inspiring the name, Brookwood Village. As one of Alabama’s oldest shopping malls, Brookwood Village was a popular destination for shoppers from all corners of The Magic City.
