Welcome to the Bham Now Nature Roundup for August 3rd.
In this edition of the Nature Roundup, check out the “Save Our Mascots” article. Did you know that 1354 high school and college teams are named “tiger” in the U.S.?
It’s our nation’s 2nd most popular mascot.
With only 3900 tigers left in the wild worldwide, it is good to see Auburn, LSU, Clemson and Mizzou join forces to save the symbol of their universities. Remember, the new U.S. Tiger University Consortium has adopted the international goal to double the number of tigers in the wild by 2022.
Let’s hope, additional in-state schools and colleges join the consortium – including the University of West Alabama Tigers.
And while we are at it, wouldn’t it be nice to see the University of Alabama support elephant conservation and recovery efforts. Since tickets are now selling at $450 per ticket for the Alabama v. Florida State opener in Atlanta, perhaps the university can spare some change to save Big Al?
