With two victories today, the Southside Shockers advanced to the Final Six of the Dizzy Dean World Series.

A team that has captured the hearts of residents throughout the Magic City, the 7- and 8-year-old all-stars of the Southside Ball Association became the first team from Avondale Park to compete in a youth baseball world series in 64 years.

The last team from Avondale won the 1953 Little League World Series.

An inspirational story about our community, over the past 10 years, Southside Ball Association has gone from enrolling less than 100 players per season to over 350 in the Spring 2017 season. The membership includes families from over 45 zip codes spanning the greater Birmingham Area.

At 9:00a.m. on Monday, July 24th, the Shockers will be playing the Clarksdale All Stars.

Here is the Southside Shockers’ bracket .

Everyone in Birmingham will be rooting for the fine young men from Avondale tomorrow. The team motto is “I got your back.”

Gentlemen – on Monday morning at 9:00am, on behalf of all who reside in Birmingham, your families, neighbors and community….

WE GOT YOUR BACK!

Update!

This Monday morning the Shockers defeated Clarksdale  17 to 4.  They now get to play cross town rival Gardendale at 10:30 (talk about a quick turnaround).

Bham Now will provide an update on the Gardendale game at noon.

One other addition about this team/club.  The Southside Shockers launched last week a GoFundMe page to support the team’s travel and the Southside Bat Association. As of today, 141 people have made contributions securing over $15,000 in donation. If you are interested in supporting Shockers visit their page – here.
