Welcome to the Bham Now Nature Roundup’s “celebrate biodiversity”  edition.

It was a pretty slow nature news week in Alabama, so it was timely that the 2nd installment from Bham Now about Alabama’s rivers came out titled – Why Alabama’s rivers are America’s Amazon

Did you know Alabama ranks first in the nation in the number of different kinds of freshwater fish, turtles, snails, mussels and crayfish?  Or as biologist Paul Johnson aptly states it – the most diverse “on earth!”

Something to truly celebrate. And as our friends at the Alabama Rivers Alliance say on their t-shirts and bumper stickers – it’s also something to “defend.”
