Birmingham’s Southside could nab National tech-driven car vendor, Carvana

Birmingham continues to attract small and big businesses alike. Advancements within the Magic City have piqued the interest of Carvana, a national innovative car shopping concept, to settle near 20 Midtown.

According to the BBJ, the city of Birmingham’s Design Review Committee will be considering plans of renovations to give way to Carvana.

Located on 115 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. S., the former Davis Transmission building, is about 100 yrs. old and has been vacant for some time.

Recently, a group of investors, from Colliers International Alabama, purchased the building for about $1.5 million. Projections show about $750k to $1 million will be invested into the redevelopment.

Development Attractiveness

Positioned close to Downtown, the Southside location is across from 20 Midtown, and very close to the Rotary Trail. The 14,000 sq foot plot, with 28 parking spots, is within proximity to many popular sites.

Carvana Details & Benefits

The Phoenix-based startup is making it easier for customers to buy used cars, minus the dealership. Carvana is known as the first “fully-automated, coin-operated car vending machine”. Although autonomous to a point, the establishment will create jobs and is expected to sustain much of the existing building.

Although the economic benefit to Birmingham is not specifically stated, the business will add to the city’s sales tax base.
