The Birmingham City Council approved a Five Points West development by Urban Community Development Consortium, LLC, Regions Bank, and The Commercial Development Authority of the City of Birmingham.

The first phase of development will contain restaurants and a hotel.  The $20 million project will receive as much as $3.25 million in tax breaks labeled “financial incentives,” based on the shops’ performance.  In addition, the City of Birmingham will spend $3.7 million on constructing new roads and sidewalks.

Recent controversy raised by the Jefferson County Millennial Democrats has been ignored by the parties involved, saying in a press release that, “We may have lost the battle today, but the war is not over.”  In response, the Central Park Neighborhood Association claimed that those who don’t live in Five Points West “do not have the right to speak on behalf of our neighborhood.”
