21st Century Indiana Jones in our midst – UAB’s Sarah Parcak

UAB’s Sarah Parcak, the much acclaimed space archeologist, National Geographic Explorer and TED Prize winner “wants to make the world’s invisible history visible once again.”

Her plan: Launch in 2017 GlobalXplorer, the first of its kind online citizen science platform that will train an army of Indiana Jones global explorers.

Working with satellites, over the years, Parcak has re-discovered over 3100 forgotten settlements, 1000 lost tombs and potentially 17 pyramids. Through GlobalXplorer, she hopes to locate and protect hundreds of thousands even millions of ancient undiscovered sites buried all over the world.
