To Hike or to Run: Bham Trails to Try

Birmingham has a wide variety of trails that give you that break from city life you might desperately need. Whether you are a runner or just like to enjoy some time in nature, here are some great trails for you.

Jemison Trail

In the heart of Mountain Brook, this lovely trail is two miles in length. With wide paths and flat trails, runners and walkers alike can enjoy this path. For runners, the trail variability is a great way to get your workout by connecting with other trail, such as Lakeshore Trail.

Boulder Creek Nature Trail

This remote trail is for the hiker. Located right behind the Vestavia Library, this nature hike will give you a great dose of natural beauty.  This path follows along Patton Creek and leaving you with a breathtaking views during your trek. With a nice waterfall on one end, this trail is the whole package.

Irondale Furnace Trail 

Although it’s little difficult to find, this trail is gorgeous, especially in the Fall and Spring. With ruins halfway down the trail, you’ll feel as if you truly escaped city life. For runners, this trail can be combined into a loop that empties into Old Leeds Road near Jemison Trail.

Aldridge Gardens

The Heart of Hoover. This spot is popular for weddings and photographers, but also hides a half-mile walking trail along the lake. While you are there be sure to visit the Fairy Garden. This beautiful, hidden gem is up on the hill on the far side of the lake. If you are looking for a nice walk with a peaceful atmosphere, this is your place.
